Rehabilitation

Hunter Valley Private Hospital has been involved in medical rehabilitation for 20 years and over this time we have developed a leading position in this specialised and challenging area of medicine.

Rehabilitation medicine is undertaken with a team based holistic approach with inputs from the rehabilitation specialist, resident medical officers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, social workers, psychologists, diversional therapists and nursing staff.

Outcome goals are agreed and individual plans are set with each patient as well as expected date of discharge as part of the admission process.

The Functional Impairment Measure (FIM) is a set of 18 different scores of function which assess a person’s ability to deal with day to day activities. Improvements to the Functional Impairment Measure are used to determine a patient’s progress.

The length of stay (LOS) of patients at Hunter Valley Private Hospital are average when compared to national data (Australian Rehabilitation Outcomes Centre).

The change in Functional Impairment Measure (FIM) at Hunter Valley Private Hospital is above average when compared to national data (Australian Rehabilitation Outcomes Centre).
